By removing Dan, jaekyung would lose the opportunity to be externally forgiven, he’d need to find internal reasons to become a better person, thereby making his “redemption” a little more earnest

I can’t be the only who thinks the story would only be elevated by Dan’s death,,,,like he’s already treated as a plot device to change Jae kyung, this would serve as a good climax for him to either progress or regress on his journey. But whatever I know mingwa doesn’t have the balls to switch the narrative into a character study that subverts the genre
