It does happen irl. In my country at least people call you "know it all" or "show off" if you speak in english or if you do something that'sweird for your assigned gender. It's some sorts of crab mentality and I would say it's possible for it to happen in Japan too considering they're a society that values harmony and unity to the point that it's bad when someone stands out. But idk I don't live there lol.

I wonder about this thing in many japanese mangas where most people discourage and look down or atleast be rude to the mc who's learning new skills. Why is that? Is it just for creating drama in a manga or does it actually happen in real life?
