To be fair Jae is super stupid - he said before "I am gay bc I like u no that makes me gay" (or smth along these lines) so him saying "Im not gay" in his head is probably the "fix" to garams issue (not saying it is, im saying thats probably what he thinks) cause to his understanding, garam was scared that if Jae came out as gay, hed have a difficult life (and he asked this again just now in the chapter to confirm, to which Garam agreed to) which is why he said "alright in that case im not gay anymore" - basically in his head "not being gay" would "fix" garams anxiety of him having a difficult life, so if he "just says hes not gay and still kisses him as """friends""" then there wont be any issue" because again hes a moron, I dont think he thinks that far ahead that "dating a straight guy" is garams fear, basically misunderstanding final boss

I absolutely agree Garam cannot choose for him what he wants to face or not however is phrasing can cause way more damage than good.
