I read its prequel when I was a very sad and angsty kid, and the concept of a much older, cooler, charismatic, stronger adult taking interest in and paying attention to Satomi was very indulgent to read. And I'll admit, when this came out, I hoped that it would end with them dating. But as I read on, it became evident that this was not such a story. That Kyouji, despite his obvious affections, didn't hug Satomi back properly. It was so refreshing seeing the story delve into realities of the situation; Satomi thinking about Kyouji's job, his age, his wealth, their distance, both physically and metaphorically, and the implications of it all. From the beginning this was a story about Satomi sorting out his feelings and finding his happiness and I love that. From now on, they'll continue to be in each other's lives, on equal footing. The nature of their relationship doesn't matter as long as they have each other. "I like Kyouji. And Kyouji is alive. That's all there is to it."
