Not sure tbh, they aren't really clear with it in the story but I think it's because the general accepts him as a descendant even though he's not connected by blood. This could also explain why the general didn't know about his existence earlier.
just reread this and i remembered questions I've had. do dorin and jeongmok also have the same dad? that'd be impossible cuz he has pink hair. so i assumed their mom had jeongmok with another man who ISN'T a hwayeon lee descendant. cuz we all know their mom only married INTO the lee clan. she's not LEE herself. their dad is.
like i do get dorim and jeongmok still share the same blood but STILL technically jeongmok is not part of the lee clan. he's an absolute outsider. NO SENSE at all for him to be protected by the general and inherit the ancestral rites at the end. ....
