I think translator-nim needs a quality checker
Or at least stop using MTL. AI doesn't know the difference between gender pronouns. My guess is someone fed AI everything gender related, and instead of saying "them, they, that child", or using the character's name for genderless words, everything ends up wrong. What little research I did, showed one translator listing the info in both genders if it's unclear, so that doesn't excuse the person picking the incorrect one that doesn't fit the story right. I've seen single translators that don't know English very well do better than the groups that mass produce, even when both use MTL. We used to have great groups over 8 years ago, but the groups these days seem to do quantity over quality. I highly suspect it's money related.
Yeah, MTL does suck ass at pronouns. I've read a lot of MTL due to ArtLapsa taking over shoujo manga, and they're definitely money-driven (they make you pay for the most recent like 5 chapters and then never update the series so it's forever incomplete for the poors). I was only reading official translations over 8 years ago so I'll trust you that it was better back then lol.
But making sure the right pronouns are used would fall under the role of a quality checker, no? If it's solo with MTL, the human is the quality checker. What I was getting at was that they aren't bothering to double check the MTL or the translator (if that chapter was human-tl, idr) to ensure they're pumping out quality translations.
Either way, MTL isn't that great when nobody is cleaning up after it. Though, I have read some good MTL, and funnily enough, it was a two-person team like you were saying (Imagine I put the hand-on-chin thinking emoji here since emojis don't work in comments)
Translator-nim are you okay? The chat bubles and the words doesn't match, like, 2 bubbles late. Or is it the raw that errors?
