I think most of the hate is because the author himself admitted to sexualizing the character, didn't he say he made her tan so he can see tanned girls cosplay her?
Nah most of the hate stems for how it’s an anime for gooners basically. Female mc teasing mc and doing shit that most gooners would like. Still doesn’t take away my point, most anime and manga the female mc is written horrendously and only used as an love interest with fan service. This one I won’t mind bc the double standards when it comes to characters like Nagatoro who is tan and bullies mc gets hate for being a gooner anime while anime’s like maid sama literally has the ML sexually harassing mc. Do I liek both tho? Yes there my nostalgic anime.. but author too wrote Nagatoro with actual personality and her own character and the very very low representation and characters who are brown/black/poc is so low in anime that yk what? I fuck w this. Plus Nagatoro is such a cute girl :( if author created this work for his fantasies and later developed his manga later and his characters I don’t mind.
Lol sorry for my long response I’m just yapping but if you know fate series the Visual novel first started off as a 18+ game with sex scenes and then later it commercialized as a fully plot with loads of characters and series without the mature aspect. Some of their desgins have dark skinned characters, but ofc some of their desgins r still yk drawn sexualized n shit but for fate idrc they kinda do everything like lolis, femboy n all the other shit for their games and series. But I still to this day have not ever seen a very good representation with darker skinned characters bc Japan is so obsessed with white bro. But anyways some of the fate characters have really good representation of the Middle East and other cultures bc most of them are taken from historical contexts.
I can kinda see what you mean, i used to read this years ago and stopped, I only stumbled upon this comment as I was checking how the manga was going (got curious and skimmed through the last chapters) i think the ending was pretty decent for their age, I did see some development (their relationship), kinda curious why ml ditched the glasses

The hate Nagatoro has because it’s one of those romance anime with heavily sexualized female love interest. But honestly? Nagatoro design mogs everything. Even if she was heavily sexualized. I know girls like me that look similar to Nagatoro never felt more seen. And if you actually try it out, Nagatoro is not just some fetish work, she has her own hobby and personality. Also she gets hate for harassing the mc but I’ve never seen usui or jinshi or some male romance character touching and harassing the female mc more than Nagatoro has. You’ll forever be a diva and idgaf what other people will say to you!! I love u Nagatoro!! Thanks for creating her author!!
