Ahhh I love this so much, what an underrated behemoth of a masterpiece.
So, let's start off this review with how awesome the plot is (keeping it spolier free). This is probably everything I want from the sci-fi genre, especially in the webcomic circle. Bc quite frankly, you'd usually find this kind of plot in movies but it goes so so well in manhwa format. The overall plot is somewhat cliche, it blends along popular tropes of both cinema and visual literature i.e manhwas/gas/huas nevertheless, the execution is marvelous and simply outstanding.
As someone whose dad used to force watch those astronomy shows on the Discovery Science channel on TV, just bc I said I wanted to become an astronaut...this manhwa is INCREDIBLY nostalgic. The best part is how easy it is to understand the science explained here!! For the record, I'm no STEM person. I'm literally dumb as rocks when it comes to science and math, so you can take my word for this.
Although, as much as I adore this, it definitely has its fair share of flaws: the story kinda dragged for a bit and got kinda repetitive in s1, while it felt very rushed in s2 (better than s1 tho, love the asteroid 'plot twist'). Additionally, every character introduced is unfortunately very shallowly designed. The inter-character dynamics are almost a joke, everyone was involved only to do their job and nothing more. They have this one role their boxed into and they never deviate from that. This is another cardboard cut-out syndrome case the only relationship they tried to flesh out was between Yumi and Cheolsoo and it did work..almost. Why? Bc they still remained ambiguous till the end. Hey, but that's okay. We can read between the lines (⌒▽⌒). Still, it is a plot-driven story, not a character driven one, so I'll give it the full benefit of doubt.
Ahem. Then there are the plot holes and the somewhat open ending. Another reason why I lowk feel like this was made for a movie/ sci-fi drama series, the ending feels like a cliffhanger for another installment lmao. Even so, I actually think this is the perfect ending. The unanswered questions actually work in favour to this manhwa's overall charm and ambience. Ofc this is entirely subjective lol (++ This is a pure science fiction story, no fantasy-magic bs. That is a huge huge plus point ngl)
Another thing I absolutely love is the Kardashev scale mention!!!! I rarely, rarely -scratch that- NEVER seen it used in a sci-fi plot. That alone made me ridiculously happy (≧∀≦), ahh this manhwa is peak reminiscent of my childhood discovery science days. So this is probably why, despite its many flaws, I'm lowk biased towards it. Sooo good. Albeit I'll probably won't be rereading this again...DUE TO HOW MEMORABLE THE PLOT IS ahahahah
