ehh from reading the novel, I thought Varcas didn't have magical powers or whatsoever?
From the spoilers I read those powers stem from his pagan ancestors and is the reason why he was brainwashed in the first place. To make him a perfect heir and "return him to god".

Despite the annoying miscommunication in UTOT, I don’t think it should be compared to this! This is x100 worse and cruel! At least Riftan would never put anyone first beside Maxi because of an oath even if it cost him his life!
Let me put the people who want to know out of their misery:
The drama and structure of the story will be similar to UTOT. The drama is THERE and things will never truly feel wholesome. The love interests are similar to UTOT too. The uncommunicative knight and the abused, "faulty" princess.
A bit later during their journey wyverns will attack their camp and FL is fatally wounded and left with scars and apermanent limp. They are forced to return to the capital and the Empress uses this opportunity to help her daughter marry Varcas. Basically, since he was the main safety guy he should take responsibility for FL and marry her instead.
Varcas does love FL. He has mind reading powers and is able to see through FL's snarky and dysfunctional self defense methods. He is bound to an oath that the previous Empress put him under, it's a literal ancient magic oath type deal that is implied to bid his life on the safety of Ayla and the crown prince. The previous empress didn't do that out of spite btw, she had some type of precognition power and was very apologetic to him about what she made him swear. So this is why he prioritizes Ayla and the pos crown prince externally, out of a sense of duty and literal life binding oath (if the oath will literally kill him if he fails, idk).
Their married life also isn't trouble free. FL will struggle with her scars and hide from ML bc she's ashamed of her body. ML doesn't talk much either. Later ik FL will have a miscarriage.
I don't know much beyond how their relationship will develop but if you know UTOT, you can expect things to happen.
