Haven't checked out novel, I trust the reviews ive seen here & matches with her character as is. If it's not true... Well, tell me if you find that out but I won't be spending time to verify it when she's alr a horrible person

She does not rape anyone. She got a sex scene with ML where they yet again communicate very poorly and ML gives her igaf vibes. SA will happen to the main characters though if that makes you feel better.

The greater context of that is that FL feels unloved and ignored by ML at this point and is desperate for him to show her affection as a husband. She pushes herself onto him and tells him they have to have sex because that's their duty, and so obliges despite not wanting to. That scene will also be hella uncomfortable bc FL quickly realizes this is wrong as well as painful both emotionally and physically. I think most people deny calling it rape because ML agrees in the end instead of talking back like usual? And we have a lot of context on FL's feeling atp so there is additional context knowing she's not "crazy" but mentally ill in the not social media friendly type of way. We live in a society.

I can't disagree. The 3rd arc is supposed to have a lot of context for his thoughts and be from his pov, but at that point lots of shit already happened. It's like 160+ chapters into the novel, so YEA, I CANT DISAGREE. If constant pain trains and slow burn drama isn't your thing, don't.

I read all the available chapters and the first intimacy scene does indeed have dubious consent. I'll describe what happened as best as I can so you can make your own judgement. Please excuse me if I'm saying something weird, English is not my first language. And I think that the translation I read is machine translation so not everything might be accurate sadlym. So the empress comes by Barkas' territory and reminds Thalia of her duty, that she has to birth an heir so he can become the empress' pawn in bringing Thalia's younger brother onto the throne. And ofc cause she needs an heir to stabilize her position in the duchy - that's the biggest argument she has. Even her nanny brings her the lingerie that the empress left as to "encourage" her to go to Barkas since she is very reluctant do to it. In the end she gets manipulated by her mother and does indeed go to Barkas to demand they "do their duty". At first he's not willing and fights her on it but she keeps coming onto him and talks him into doing it. He wants to wait till she's healthy (she got into a pretty bad accident, barely lived and now she's disabled) but she's adamant they have to start trying for a baby right now. Says it's their duty and in the end he does agree to do it. It's pretty uncomfortable to read since they're both not really into it and she is clearly forcing not only him but also herself to do this. She wants it over as fast as possible so she tells him to extinguish the fireplace and all of the candles so it's very dark and leave her dress on so he can't see how "ugly she is cause of her injury". She makes him forgo foreplay and just stick it in. And like the obedient man he is, he does everything she says. In the end she leaves for her own room even though he's asking her to stay. The next time they do it he puts his foot down and says sth like "okay I know it's our duty but let's not get hurt" aaaaand from then on they have sex daily. And from how it was written it seems that Barkas connected the dots pretty quickly on why she came onto him like that.
