I’m not justifying the fact that he did love someone else while being married but in a historical setting like this it’s normal for husbands to have a mistress. Their relationship at the start was arranged after all. With the way she acted (she admitted her wrongdoings in the past) the crown prince still treated her with respect (she said so herself).
