I also just got to that chapter. My assumption is that it's to show her uncle that he's on her side. It's a warning against trying to come after her.
It's just a bit akward for me to see the dude proposing infront of everyone even though the guy and her are still not divorced yet.

I cant answer this question myself, so i am planning to ask the people who have read further or can answer my question.
It doesnt make sense to me that they haven't even divorced legally yet and that man proposes infront of everyone? Can someone make it make sense on why would he do that?
