while it is a thing, i feel like given the essence of the culture from what readers have seen, everything is very possessive and carries a weight deeper than just "giving something away." What I mean is that, if the Padishah's former concubine were gifted to someone else, ESPECIALLY if she bore the next heir (as stated in the chapter), that child would 1) lose legitimacy 2) it could be seen as an "insult" to the Padishah's honor
imo it's carrying a weight of, what is the Padishah's will always stay the Padishah's

Concubines can be given away right? In many ancient culture giving away concubines was a thing. So why doesn't Shuraka just give away Larr to Nashid. They love each other so much but can't get married, it's so sad.
