It's possible to die immediately if the blade directly severs the upper spinal cord or a major blood vessel like the vertebral artery. So yes it's possible
I really do like the story and characters and I understand trying to keep it chill with the "bloody" scenes, but really? "Death" by a knife thrown into the back? It wasn't even poisoned (〜￣△￣)〜
