If I remember correctly, his hair color was meant to be a way of hiding him from others.
Well, in the novel, there's a place where Aaron can keep his masterpieces and be free to do whatever he wants without his father knowing, while Leicester, after the incident with the horse, loses all his memories.
As a way to hide what happened before (there's so much backstory), Aaron dyes Leicester's hair, turning it red. I'm eagerly awaiting the part where Aaron goes crazy after painting his beloved with the exact same hair color, right after Leicester returns to his life, forgetting everything they've been through, and buys the painting to give to his future "beloved." Oh, I almost forgot, Leicester is so jealous of himself! Even more so when Aaron calls out the name he himself gave him before, but Leicester doesn't remember.
The novel made me feel every possible emotion; I've never felt so impacted in my life. Sorry if you didn't understand something, English isn't my first language.
