it’s pretty good, it’s been a while but I don’t think it was crazy toxic. def on the tamer side the mc was jealous over some guy in highschool and like 10 years later the guy became famous and the mc is a reporter so he tries to find dirt on him to make an article (inferiority complex there really wasn’t a reason) but he doesn’t push it too far. It’s ends up a sweet story
It’s very toxic. There’s SA too. They’re both crazy. I had a hard time reading this back then. Nevertheless it’s still well written but the ride was rough.

As a fellow reader who've read it for who knows how many times , I can assure that the story or the plot is well executed but the theme is semi dark , and the characters might make you feel uneasy . It deals with Soohyun, a fine office worker but no so fine when it comes to his long time obsession, Jung Eunsung . At first both of them gives a vibe of morally grey to black but with the story progressing their characters got more stable and likable . I'll say give it a try . It got more fluffy moments as it progresses. The whole plot revolves around Eunsung's art mentor who's a psychopath and obsessing over him and Soohyun saving him (at first you might question Soohuyn's judgement because the way he started helping might not look helping at all) . It deals with dark themes but I'd say the story itself is not dark . I know it might sound contradict but still .
The most notable thing that it got a obsessive, possesive bottom which is quite heart to find by . Your challenge is first 10 chapters. (Yes I myself dropped it by chapter 9 when I read it first, but I pick up again and it became one of my favourites) .
But let me warn you about one thing there's a non con around the main leads around the first few chapters, even though I like the manhwa this one chapter feels like a thorn in my throat.
I'll just say give it a try , if not suitable for you then drop it .
Anyway I see you read Beware of the Full Moon in March, don’t worry about Checkmate you’ll be fine. Just read it.
Its good, i think it perfectly captures the love-hate relationship. It also shows obsession but in a more non-bl way (?) like its really obsession and not your usual Bl where obsession is shown as confining someone or your typical shits.
I would highly recommend for you to read it.
it starts off with rape i figure it’s toxic then. i know the MC got raped (‘or SAed ) too by someone. so yeah there is rape

im sorry for my bad english but i really hate beware of the full moon in march. I read bcs i saw a lot of comment saying the redemption arc is satisfying but, no. I hate nakwon so much. So i dont know if i should proceed reading checkmate. I stopped reading at chapter 6 but seeing some of you say theres development in their relationship so i guess i'll continue reading it. I can just close my eyes & prentend theres no SA TT
