While I do think it’s an overused theme (like in this BL, if it does turn into non con it’s obvious it’s not gonna be handled in an actual way, it’s literally just gonna be pointless and cliche.) some BL where it is handled well are like Low Tide in the Twilight (probably the most popular one) it def still gets a lot of slack for what Taeju did at the beginning but it doesn’t glorify it at all, the point was that he was a horrible person at the beginning and does horrible things. And he gets a very well written character arc and development that feels earned and believable and has to suffer to get uke. While Euihyun does suffer a lot in LTIT he’s not helpless, he’s smart and capable and doing the best he can, and he gets his happy ending that he CHOSE. Some other ones that I really enjoy are checkmate, shape of sympathy, and a world without you, which if I remember correctly don’t particularly have any full like absolutely non con scenes (or at least violent ones, they could lend to being non con) but def some playing around with consent just because of the nature of the relationships at the beginning. But they’re amazing stories that obviously have some heavy themes but are handled very well. Beware the full moon in March or the ides of March whichever name is a similar one to LTIT where Seme goes through the ringer for soooo long because of how bad he was at the beginning, like majority of the story they’re not even close to being together, bc it gives time for the actual development. I totally agree that it’s way overused and not handled well majority of the time, and it’s weird that every author decides to put in in their story when they don’t have the capacity to write the development around it to make it palatable. I’m someone who reads heavy themes and even enjoys works like “Walk in my shoes/reverse thinking” and have gone into a lot of discourse of depiction of immoral acts in fiction, because unlike the acts in REAL LIFE, in fiction there’s a lot of nuance. I avoid all the same crappy randomly thrown non con scene yaois as everyone else, bc it’s just bad writing, but acting like every yaoi that has non con is just another jinx and that 99% of them are bad, when I would say it’s only around 60/40 you just have to actually yk be reading them, and I totally understand the fact when most people see non con they jsut click off (that’s why trigger warnings are so important because no one should have to read something they don’t want to)
It’s literally not but okay. Low tide in the twilight and jinx literally treat their characters and development completely different (jinx has horrible writing). If you don’t wanna read something with dark themes that’s fine but acting like it’s bad writing is dumb, plus if you did actually read the rest of my comment you’d probably understand that better. Fiction is fiction, and there are times where it can become harmful and problematic, but depiction is not the same as glorification and romanticization, and stories like LTIT are ones that handle it pretty well. If you don’t like rape in any context GREAT! Completely fine, but rape used in a story doesn’t automatically disqualify it as a well written story just because it’s something YOU don’t like. Rape in fiction is incomparable to rape in real life, characters get development and arcs that real life people CANNOT. Saying they’re chopped and lobotomized is also weird??? Like u can dislike the art but they are literally well developed characters with well thought out motives and their happy ending doesn’t just appear out of nowhere, it’s fought for and believably earned. It’s okay that you don’t like it still, but you acting like it’s sooooo horrible bc you don’t like the immoral acts that were supposed to be immoral and that’s the entire point of the story, then you literally just have bad media literacy lol
You being a gay man makes this literally worse cause then you dont even have the excuse that youre a teenage girl fetishizing gay men lmfao? Low tide in twilight was literally about a man in power pimping a vulnerable man out to the point that the guy got heavily depressed (more than he initially was somehow), there was repeated rape and sa and then — suddenly? Everythings fixed cause the other dude cried a bit … this has truly been our lobotomy kaisen

Idk I’m usually okay with rape in yaoi… but like this already feels like it’s not gonna be nuanced enough to make it work… if I hope hard enough it won’t be full non con but just a light dub con.
