He looks down on others because he projects his own insecurities onto other people on his "battle field" called high school. deep down he knows he's nothing without these bullies with huge reputation to support him and climb him up the social ladder, which I expect you already know that since you can tell he's not doing great at all without sticking to those with reputation. In high school reputation is everything, it's power, and you can see that without sticking to anyone with actual reputation, he's a loner and the people around him show their true faces.
Even after he gets tired of junwoo he continues acting like his bitch for his own benefit to still have the social power, it's basically a survival instinct and I'm pretty sure kangjun also describes it as a way to survive in high school. his feelings were shifting to yohan.
because the big misunderstanding happened at yohan's house. which probably made things worse for yohan around his family, he started bullying him even though he still feels jealous seeing kangjun with that blonde half american boy. Once you like someone deeply after you both saw each other being vulnerable and authentic, it's not that simple to just hate the same person. especially when you both put on these fake personalities in high school but finally you get to be the real you with someone.
At least that's how I view it. sure, he is pathethic, but that's his character. faking confidence, projecting his own shit onto others and coping through it, but when shit gets real, he sees how powerless he really is.
