mann idk but I assume women js feel pleasure through men getting dominated, and like u say that the uke is like, a woman but a man in some way and women prob finds a kink to it and being a masochist, well some of em are like that (ig) but MANY js wants to dominate men. Unlike the other that when reading yaoi they want to be the uke for them to get beaten up by the seme, the other wants to be the seme to beat up the uke. Idk gng women are scary
I know you're looking for someone to answer, but I had to reply because YES!! I think the rise in popularity of BL manhwa, specifically, has just brought in authors who are only trying to appease fetishes and don't actually care about good plot:(( The quality has definitely gone down, and i find myself going back to the ogs made in like 2018. I'm not saying that im not for a little smut here and there, and if it's advertised as such, then fine. But it's sad that most korean bls in 2026 have become overpopulated w "porn w little plot" stories. Currently, "the hounds of sisyphus" has really been the only manhwa this yr that actually has an interesting plot.
So you all just came here to shit on women as consumers of BL? The reason I started reading BL was bc FLs are never written/portrayed properly in any media be it novels, manga or drama/films. I do not want to see a man suffer to find it relatable bc it isn't the same. The problem isn't that women started reading these, the problem is people marketing it and making decisions about it are okaying this stuff which would very likely be "men" who claim they know what the "women" want. I geared towards manhua bc the art is better than mangas to the point some of them are just artistic pieces panel by panel. I would say Korean BL tried to follow Japanese BL bc that was the predecessor and took all the problematic points in all its glory. The artistic depictions of manhua just amplifies what black n white manga downplayed. I don't care if a story has sex scenes or not but I would not stand for complete censorship of gay relations in any form unless the story is about or aimed at minors. Even an adult "hetero" story would have sensual kiss scenes so if I'm reading a story aimed at my age bracket I expect it to have some sexual elements in it. The thing about porn BLs, I believe there are just as many hetero pornhuas as BL ones. Just that BL market has expanded noticably so some authors just take advantage of it. Many readers have expressed disatisfaction about some pf the top rated BLs including rape scenes when the story would have been just fine without it. But ofc, the publishers know better.

So I took a break from reading BL for a while and damn has the landscape changed drastically. ATP we know that a majority of producers and consumers of BL content are disproportionately women(which isn’t a big deal). The typical “hetero-normal” gender roles have always been prevalent in the medium, but it’s to the point it feels like the uke is just a self-insert now. Not to mention, the rise and popularity of rape/abuse in Korean BL has started to become the norm unlike the past, that it feels like it’s become a outlet for women to explore sexually taboo fantasies without the shame. it doesn’t even feel like I’m reading a dark fantasy story anymore. Just smut with a focus on rape. I was just curious if anyone knew the reason for such a culture shift in what women like reading.
