I didn’t think this story needed a second volume because the first itself was a very mature and realistic take on a ridiculous premise with an interesting couple. I was wrong.
The second volume does so much in 5 chapters that it’s astounding. Izumi keeps insisting his trauma isn’t a big deal, but it really is. Being constantly compared and never having your hard work appreciated cuts a lot, especially when you live with the person you are compared too. You can’t ask them to be anything but the themselves, but not being as good and being neglected for it is horrid. I felt bad for his brother too. Although he saw what was happening, he too was a child and unable to understand how to help Izumi. It’s a very human depiction of a complicated, even if commonplace, situation.
Sendo and Izumi’s relationship feels very real because they are enamoured with each other and seek understanding and togetherness. They give off a sense of ‘I can really see a relationship like this working out forever’ sort of feeling because of how sincere they feel as lovers. It’s really remarkable. I cried a lot in this volume. Great read. I’m glad sendo could help Izumi heal, even if just a little for now.
