ngl kinda surprised i didn't hate this as much as i thought, my only critique is that trying to make yuka and tsurugi be focused initally was a bad idea. just gonna say it, they're both half baked and not that compelling as characters.

in contrast, i think that maru and cross, and the whole of the rumelians were actually very interesting. i think i was also surprised how much they were willing to actually have a conversation about religion and war. surprisingly an insightful commentary about religion and what it means to worship someone, after all, the kalyans were gods to the rumelians. obviously they would be sad if someone killed their equivalent of god.

that is to say, not only is this rushed, i just think that the good parts were from the rumelians and not even from the people who are human. maru and cross just had a more interesting twin/sibling dynamic and i could tell that family and siblings was a big part of this sequel. it's just disappointing how boring yuka and tsurugi are considering they were hyped up, but it's not even like either of them was even all that impressive or interesting. both personality wise AND combat wise.
