It doesn't justify what he's done but being exposed at a young age to sexual activities (and to the extreme as he was) is definitely not good for the psyche. He was also isolated as punishment for periods of time. He was just a child. Maybe participating in lewd acts (as he was) was a way to overwrite what he had seen. Or maybe just take back power that was taken from him by his father. As a way to say "not even all of that could change me. This is who I am and I'm doing it all under your roof." Or maybe it all skewed his perspective of physical relationships were he saw it as the only way to have them was to be depraved (<< for lack of better word). Maybe it was hypersexuality. It's been a long time since I read this, so I'm only speculating.
