Honestly, I always read the little notes because most of time, they add more information and explanations that would be good for the reader to know. So I got a bit annoyed when I would start reading them and see that it was negative input. It just interrupted the atmosphere.
In my personal opinion, the story itself wasn't amazing but it also wasn't bad enough to warrant such criticism from an editor. I feel like they were overly critical and it was absolutely unnecessary input to add as an edit...
If they really didn't like the story, they could've just dropped it and I'm sure someone else would've picked it up at some point. So it's not that you're easily pleased. Everyone has their own tastes ya know?
What I'm saying is, don't take their comments to heart and just read whatever you like to your heart's content!
