Honestly, for a story like this, the abuse and Stockholm syndrome is pretty clear and I appreciate that for a fcked up story like this. It isn't really treating as a romance, but as clear cruelty and abuse that concerns multiple people around him. ML is a cruel piece of sht, MC is a naive 21 year old kid who never even saw the ocean in his life, let alone have sex or kissing someone. He's the type to lend someone 7,000 after initially meeting them and then feeling bad for them/make excuses for them after they run off with it. He has also been sexually assaulted and abused his entire life by his aunt who always said cruel and messed up things to him.
He is prime pickings for any abuser. ML took all of his firsts and starts with confining and abusing him. Then it turns to love bombing by giving him lee way, nice things, enough to make him happy for a moment, with full knowledge that he can take that happiness at any time, and he does over and over again. He is sweet, then he is absolutely cruel. Like MC says, he is clinging to any moment of happiness he can get, while being terrified of when the cruelty will start again, and he is starting to find a sense of security with ML. Rather than romance, I would espect the Stockholm syndrom to get worse as he convinces himself that ML is doing this because he loves him, or things get bad enough that he successfully escapes or klls himself once his grandma dies. I am interested to see where this shtfest goes.
