There is a misunderstanding that leads to a runaway arc which can be annoying but it makes sense in context because MC is an extremely straightforward guy who doesn't perceive subtle hints well while ML is kind of a sly type who doesn't inspire much trust from MC. But anyway the runaway arc finally makes both be more truthful and it resolves in like a month even in the story timeline or 2 chapters in the novel so while annoying it doesn't drag. The best part of the story is still the personality of the main characters, while the plot is actually pretty simple and predictable.
