It has a lot of character development, yes, but I understand why you wouldn't want to read it at first. I first started reading this over 10 years ago though so probably there's a huge nostalgia factor here lol

The beginning part is definitely rough but once you start on the end of their highschool that’s where it starts to get good. Their college years has amazing character and relationship development. I always skip the first 3 volumes when i reread this anyway lol

I don’t think the author thought ahead when starting the story, most japanese bls run very short and they are not intended to be particularly good stories. I’d like to think that had they known that the manga would get this much attraction and run for this long, the story would have begun much more differently. And yes, he does apologize. I don’t think I would like the story as much if I read it for the first time now in my age though lol nostalgia is a big factor for me

I also think she was too young like us, and that we kinda grew up together. Both the author and the readers had the opportunity to experience different things and learn more about the world in the meantime.

It's speculated that she was around 20 when she started this in 2006-2007. It was a different world back then, too, and she followed the trends that were current at the time, according to what was politically "correct" back then, too. I think it's actually refreshing to see her changing and improving and making this show through her characters as well making them more mature as she gains experience in life as well.
