How was she supposed to know the fmc liked the ml and wasnt dating the other guy, when everyone else believed the rumors too? she shot her shot, and succeeded, only bc the ml agreed to date her. there's a little bit of drama afterwards when she realized fmc liked ml bc she genuinely wanted to be with him, but she didn't drag on a losing battle on her end. she accepted her loss maturely and moved on.
