Nah nah I get you but it's so funny and miserable how the ones that were neglected the most by their parents ended up being the most normal. For example the royals and Ruediger. (We're gonna ignore the not so normal fact of Ruediger's slight density when it comes to social cues)
Nobody really ever gave a fuck about him growing up, did they? The last few chapters were done well,and in character, but genuinely wtf . Definitely soured my perception of the duke AND duchess. Lowkey equal parts pitiful and enraging because nobody got what they they wanted /nobody really did what they should've out of PRIDE.
GENUINELY. ONLY RUEDIGER GREW SOMEWHAT STABLE AND THAT'S BECAUSE HE PARENTS DIDN'T GIVE A DAMN ABOUT HIM!
Again. I get how it makes sense in-character (author did a really good job on showing how people are multifaceted and can be "ugly"),but I can stay made as a reader. Most well done piece of annoyance I have ever read. Double-damn for me though,because this was genuinely the only way I saw this playing out. I hate how perfect it was for this story.
9/10 story. Would recommend to anyone and everyone as is.
