Disappointing

This is such a waste of good art. The more I think about this manhwa, the more disappointing it becomes because the foundation for a genuinely powerful psychological BL was already there.

Kyungseo’s reason for revenge was actually clear from the beginning. His mother suffered, worked herself to death, and died in poverty while the people tied to that mansion continued living comfortably. That resentment and pain made perfect sense. His return carried emotional weight and real narrative potential.

But once he entered the mansion again, all of that slowly became meaningless.

Instead of a layered revenge story, Kyungseo gradually loses all agency and ends up reduced to little more than a sexual object for Tae-oh’s father. The story keeps implying tension, manipulation, and psychological complexity, yet never gives enough emotional depth or explanation to justify why Kyungseo simply allows himself to remain trapped in that situation for so long despite supposedly returning with years of anger and purpose.

And that is where the writing completely falls apart for me.

The manhwa wants to present itself as dark, tragic, and psychologically mature, but too often it confuses abuse and sexual exploitation with depth. The father becomes excessively vile to the point that it stops feeling nuanced and starts feeling disgusting for shock value alone. Meanwhile, Kyungseo’s suffering is constantly aestheticized instead of meaningfully explored.

Then the Tae-oh twist should have emotionally shattered the story in a good way, but instead it feels hollow because the narrative never properly develops the emotional consequences behind any of it. There is no truly satisfying payoff, confrontation, or catharsis after everything the characters endured.

The ending leaves behind less of a haunting tragedy and more the feeling that an incredible artist was paired with an underdeveloped script.

Visually, this is one of the most beautiful BL manhwas I’ve read in a long time.

Narratively, it feels like wasted potential buried under gorgeous art, gothic atmosphere, and explicit scenes.

If you read stories mainly for aesthetic dark BL tension and beautifully drawn gay sex, you’ll probably enjoy it a lot.

But if you are the type of reader who reads deeply, analyzes character psychology, looks for emotional coherence, and expects narrative payoff equal to the themes being presented, this story will likely leave you frustrated more than anything else.
