Catenaccio is a Japanese sports manga by Daisuke Morimoto about a determined but untalented high school soccer player, Yataro Araki, who dreams of conquering European football. The series, named after a defensive soccer tactic, follows Araki's unconventional path to becoming a center-back in Italy, focusing on realistic tactics, strong defense, and his intense work ethic. It began serialization in Weekly Young Jump in 2022 and is known for its grounded, suspenseful portrayal of professional football. -From Google. • Yataro araki has big dreams of becoming Europe's best centerback, despite his lack of natural physical talent. Disciplined and determined to succeed, he made a deal with his father that if he can't get an offer to play soccer professionally before graduation, he'll focus on his studies and give up on his dream. When all hope seemed lost, he received an offer from the manager of the professional italian football team, FC Olivero. Despite araki being terribly unskilled and the manager originally intending to scout sakakibara, the forward that defeated araki in his last match, the manager places hope in araki's never-relenting desire to win to become an outstanding centerback.
• Araki soon finds out that this manager, silvio testa, runs the U19 team (primavera league) unusually. Until the team manages to win two promotion matches back-to-back and then beat the FC olivero U23 team B (where U19 is given a 2-0 headstart), players have zero chance of ever being considered to advance to the FC olivero first team on serie A.

Anyways, what I like about this story is how it not just highlights how defensive positions work in the shadows in soccer, but also gives fair coverage to the other characters and the positions they have. It has a rlly nice balance in how it approaches all the different philosophies and potential growth in all the characters. I just wish the updates were more frequent...
