ik the rape might have been unnecessary and might've looked like a kink scene for some people but to me it just made me click with the story more. to my eyes it was a way to show how the uke devalues himself so much he didn't even see it as rape. he sees homosexuality as a disadvantage to loving and he'll never amount to anything other than a gay guy. kinda like most the weeknd songs depreciating himself as a guy who only knows sex and with it, came emotional detachment.
