guys i dont uderstand shit and im just on chapter 3 wtf is going on

(Slight Spoliers ahead)Let me summarize this as best as I can. Blondie is a washed up actor that was offered a job but it was actually a trick to lure him back to the cult he grew up. When they arrive, Blondie tries to escape but accidentally pushes the leader aka the shepherd off a cliff. The religion the cult follows believes that when they die they're transferred to a younger body or vessel. So everyone in the cult believes this is the soul of the leader in blondie's body (obviously not).The Brunette guy was like his friend growing up in the cult. So basically blondie has to pretend to be the new shepherd of the cult.
