Honestly that is what I like more in this, because she was put through hell in her past life and needs to pay it back before even sparing energy for romance. Her resolve to stay away from romance and marriage makes sense after being so badly burnt. The romance is slow burn and builds up which also feels understandable and relatable, because both characters experience betrayal and distrust.
Unpopular opinion, but I hate the subplot romance of this story, Madeia is a such a good character such a boss bitch but holy shit her and the ml doesn't have an ounce of chemistry together
