I just finished this manhwa and I’m lowkey in tears. I finally caught up after years and Lord all I gotta say is that the author knows how to cook with the tragedy. Jeremy has been on my mind for the past hour and Lord. I don’t necessarily ship them but even shippers themselves know that shuri and Jeremy were never able to happened (literally shown in the holy trial arc) but it’s the “what if” factor that gets me. What if jonnah wasn’t selfish, what if Jeremy and shuri got married instead, what if they met in high society as debutante and knight instead of mother and son. Ahhh it’s so tragic. I think Jeremy happiness was if he was with shuri which is why I root for them a little but we have to consider shuri best interest (dw he gets his happy ending). And what makes this even a thought is that Jeremy never saw her as a mother I mean the age gap is literally 1.5 yrs it’s non existent.
Jeremy feelings were so valid I mean imagine a person coming to live with u to play the role over mother when she’s a year older than u. He never saw her as a woman he saw a girl they were age mates and for those that him liking her wasnt unnecessary to the story it truly wasn’t. Jeremy liking shuri highlights the fact she was just a girl that was forced into this political world. She was only 14.
One thing that stuck with me on the what if factor is the Broach. In the first timeline, Jeremy gives the broach with underlying romantic themes mixed with it and in the second timeline Nora gives the broach. It really shows the parallel because while even in the first time line shuri and Jeremy were doomed from the start but it just shows smt. Also in the first timeline I don’t think shuri saw herself fully as a mother to Jeremy which rlly deepened the broach moment in my eyes. The way she held onto that broach until death truly was tragic.
In every timeline shuri and Nora deserve each other a 100% but if there was a timeline that shuri wasn’t Jeremy mum I would root for them endlessly.
Also the novel is so tragic (dw no spoilers) but theobald ik he’s a “villain” but damn I hated how the ending went for him cuz it really shows how ur childhood experiences can shape urself.
