In Zig’s interconnected universe, the parent-child dynamic is defined by a cycle of generational trauma originating with the family of Miller's, Ashley (Alpha) and Connor (Omega); Aka their parents.
Because Ashley kept Connor in isolation to protect him from their dangerously psychopathic children, the kids grew up feeling abandoned and were raised under Ashley's cold and harsh rules. This abusive upbringing produced deeply damaged, toxic Alphas like Grayson, Chase, etc.

For the situation: Grayson and Stacy wanted to experiment on Connor, to see what would happen (because they were deeply disconnected emotionally). By poisoning Koi with dish detergent and spoiled food, Koi didn't notice because of a trauma that caused him to be unable to smell. He barely made it and since then he's been separated from the kids.
