novel

I rlly hope they change the post-abyss plot… Because seriously in the novel it started to become a slog that didn’t focus on what actually mattered…
I do love me a revenge but to spend 40 chapters on actual goddamn fodder who don’t contribute to the overarching plot of the abyss was so annoying…
praying author changes it because so much was filler and pointless.

Honestly, (spoilers ahead)

Everything they leave the abyss starts to lose its meaning. The stakes and the dire situation written so well in the abyss is just totally brushed aside, there is no trauma to face, and we start to get less and less dyanmics of the main gang, instead so much writing on Park Seungmin and Go Jaewon that gave no insight or real satisfaction (as it had been dragged on for too long)

and finally when they returned to the Abyss plot, so much was just… not there???
Like so many plot points from when they were in the Abyss were not address or chalked up to be something so simple. Like are we being fr that Hyunmook’s negative trait is “To never give up” and it was quite obvious there was more to it? Or the foreshadowing about how he is very irregular and why despite every other member turning more non human, he stayed human-like, yet at heart was the least human of them all? WERE JUST GOING TO MOVE ON FROM THIS WITHOUT TRULY ADRESSING IT?

When finally going back to the Abyss plot, what made the novel so amazing was not there. I wasn’t tense at all, I no longer felt such a deep attachment to the characters (that’s what happens when you focus on fodder) and there was little character development to be made. It felt so cheap compared to the quality presented in the abyss, how descriptive and terrifying things felt, the anguish the members would feel, and the hopes of conquering the Abyss.

God I loved this from when they were in the abyss but I was so disappointed at the deterioration of the writing once they escape (Which btw, was done by a fluke and had many unadressed things that I was so sure was going to be readressed, until we started focusing on human fodder instead of the thing the novel initally portrays to be the big bag, the Abyss) there’s so much shit i haven’t even mentioned like the Black mountain and world of the Abyss… Such good worldbuilding for it to go to waste.

ok done ranting I applaud you if you’ve read this all.
I can only hope the manhwa excutes the novel better. because god if we spend 40 chatpers on fucking Park Seungmin, I know everyones gonna start hating. (I still love this novel at heart)

like cmon the title is “follow the sheep jnto the ABYSS” not follow the sheep into EARTH POLITICS AND IDIOTIC GOVERNMENTS

i think the part where hyunmook struggles to be back on earth after they got out bc he believes he's no longer human- he hollowed himself out trying to keep his team alive in the abyss pretty compelling ngl. i didnt hate it that much bc i looked forward to the revenge arc, the people who made them enter the abyss deserved to suffer and it was fun to read how they set everything up for these people to get their just desserts (not disagreeing, just a diff opinion about the post-abyss stuff)

no its not that I hated the revenge its I hated how it was executed. Novel spent way too much time on characterizing the revenge fodder and the actual revenge was unsatisfying for the amount of chapters it took. Because we spent so much time bringing them up and hyping up the “fall” and that “fall” wasn’t even close to being enough to justify the chapters it took. I’d rather have more chapters focusing on the gang’s dynamic together and settle the revenge quick and sweetly, as they did for the one fodder character group (Not PSM or GJW)

also about the hyunmook struggling back on earth thats what I wanted to see but I barely saw it at all? He really doesn’t struggle, he does perfectly fine. and there’s barely any depiction of trauma from the abyss for all of them. (Note: there is, just not enough to show significance) In fact I did not see much of the “hollowed out” self you speak off because there wasn’t many chapters entirely dedicated to the team, and the few chapters solely dedicated to our main characters were sex scenes that didn’t show any of that characterization or struggles.

Also Seungryong legit just vanishes from the plot until they finally after 55 chapters go to face the Flood thats invaded earth/Great rift. Done my boy dirty. Also wish the author actually used his and Yakrin’s banter dynamic, once they exited the abyss they didn’t interact once. Stuff like this is what I’m complaining about, so much dialogue building of a revenge that was rather lackluster, over focusing on these characters and dyanmics.

yo sorry for the rlly long message,

tldr: Revenge had no need to take 50 chapters to finish, was lackluster compared to the one that took 2 chapters, spend that time on characterization & Sunrise team dynamics instead
