Quote from stupid ass user:“Queerbaiting is just one thing authors do to get their work recognized and attract more fans. So I don’t get why anyone has to be upset about queerbaiting??? Why do people have to make a problem out of every little thing?”
What an absolutely insane thing to say. You’re literally admitting right there that you don’t see anything wrong with exploiting gay people and our desire for representation. You just openly said it’s a valid marketing trick a tool creators use to hook us, hype us up, and make money off our identities and you act like I'm the ones being unreasonable for being angry about it.
It’s not “making a problem out of nothing.” It’s not “every little thing.” Queerbaiting is using our community as a cheap gimmick. It’s dangling the promise of queer love and representation in front of us, getting us invested, getting us to spend money, make content, and defend the work… only to pull it away at the last second and say “it was just a friendship, don’t take it so seriously.”
You don’t get to dismiss our frustration of shipping delulu when you’re fine with creators profiting off our existence while refusing to actually respect or represent us properly. You’re basically saying: “It’s okay to use gay people for clout and cash, why are you mad that authors are treating you like a cash cow instead of actual people?” That’s exactly what it is exploitation and the fact that you don’t see a problem with it just proves how little you actually care about the community you claim to support.
