I think they just like the guy and admire him from afar. I think it's like that, lol. Maybe authors are just using hyperbole

No, it's not like that, except for very specific cases, it's more subtil for girls, but to draw subtility you need space and time, which authors don't have, so they resort to big obvious because it's a shortcut. The messages passes: there is a rival and she wants your partner.
fr, there's alot of objectively handsome guys in our school but it's mostly the girls that are fawned over here at least it's the way I see it. A handsome man is just an average woman afterall
The grouping is totally a thing I've seen back in highschool but the fangirling thing is something I've only ever seen twinks get
Though I do have this one cishet guy friend that gets this kind of treatment purely because he's the fluffy wholesome nerd type, the fact that he was also built like a teddy bear also helped
Personally i did see sometimes girls like this that would flock around a handsome guy but i guess it's not that common?
Guys, I'm really a homebody and don't go out often. Rarely, actually. So, I've never seen girls like that. Every time I read a manhwa or manga, I wonder if those types of girls really exist. Like, a group of girls going into a frenzy over a guy. At least in my country, no. I've seen pick-me girls, but not girls like those. Maybe the guys here are ugly, lol.
But every time there's a popular guy, he's surrounded by girls fawning over him. Is it really like that in Japan? If I were him, I'd be so pissed off by those girls sticking their noses into my business
