They explained it fairly well. The aliens can’t feel shit other than with their tentacles and the only way to kill them is from a specific spot on the back of their head where those tentacles sprout from.

This is fire but lord knows I can't wrap my head around the anatomy of the aliens, what the hell was going on in that final scene
