Okay, so the saintess/Empress' goddaughter is Countess Elvira's daughter?? Aww, what a cutie patootie! Oh dear, then Elvira's stance isn't as concrete as when she first appeared. So the saintess candidate is, in fact, a child, and just an added element to strengthen the curse. A candidate suggests there is more than one, so its possible that this empress has drained i.e. killed several. If they can somehow save her daughter, Elvira would absolutely switch loyalties in a heartbeat!
The question is, was she coerced, or did she give up her daughter willingly for her position, and either didn't know to the full extent of what she was doing, or did know, but now obviously regrets it?
