When he chose another woman as his mate, it was something like 200 years ago. Solan wasn’t alive yet. So though he chose a mate, it wasn’t his true fated mate like Solan. So essentially he chose a wife, not a mate, cause you can’t choose your mate; that’s something fate decides

Yes, 200 years before. I’m assuming they got married cause she became empress. That’s why the gold dragon is trying to pick his own bride/mate, because the black dragon picked his own 200 years ago. But she wasn’t his true mate, so it didn’t work out for him in the end. They explain it all later.

Sorry I had to reply cause this isn’t right like at all. The black dragon didn’t choose another wife 200 years ago. The emperor at the time (who wasn’t the black dragon) tried to chose his mate but ended up not going through with it after finding his true mate.
Are you 100% sure because why is it like it was the memory of the black dragon, it looked like he remembered that woman, you know what I mean? Was it perhaps explained better in the novel ?
