I like the story. That's why I'm discussing it.
Characters can be intentionally possessive and readers can still critique how that impacts other characters. That's not complaining, that's engaging with the narrative.
engaging with media doesn't mean you shouldn't criticise the characters. that's poor media literacy. same thing with book reports. absentmindedly consuming media is doing a disservice to the author who thinks of and adds narrative devices to make the story interesting. any story, be it the most gooner slop you've ever encountered will always have a discussion
