I don’t even know what to say… all I know is that I cried and bawled my eyes out for probably an hour or so. From the beginning I already found Cloden’s character endearing and heartwarming, so seeing him having to get badly beaten up by trained guards to be displayed on public, ordered by his childhood friend/partner at that, was truly the most gut wrenching angst I have read in a while. I’m a sucker for kind and down-to-earth characters which was why this scene particularly hit hard. Another scene that made me cry the most was Cloden looking in the mirror to examine himself and his current state of being. It was downright awful as fuck.
