Show don't tell, that's the fundamental of storytelling. If the intention was to end with Karam, then the author needs to show us the process. Instead, he got way more chemistry and screen time with other characters. Can't blame the readers if the author is going to bait and switch in the end.
Many are not satisfied but I think it's fine the way it is cause it's natural. He knows who he likes better and choose the right person for himself. Had he chosen the black hair dude, wouldn't that made him fickle? I get that there's chemistry between him and the black hair dude (from reader's perspective only) but that doesn't matter because he knows his heart. He only likes the black hair dude as friend, nothing more nothing less
