I did not cry for NOTHING!! After all that build up for Sakoto's death and she is just "miraculously healed" ABSOLUTELY NOOOOTTT. I love Shinpei but man, that was not the character growth I anticipated. I was really expecting him to live a happy life even without Sakoto!!!
I imagined it more like after Sakoto's passing and then Shinpei found her letter (more like a list on what she looked forward to everyday) but instead of "Keep living tomorrow" the last line would be "To have our heartbeats as one forever" I really gave that line a hard thought. Sakoto a weak hearted maiden, her blood couldn't even reach the fingertips of her hands and yet her love for Shinpei flowed throughout her whole body which gripped her to keep living. Shinpei, a man who did anything to survive even if leading his heart astray found one to pull him back to the light, to not just simply live, but to be alive. Having that in mind, makes it more tragic but bittersweet in a way.
Shinpei would soon realize loving each other doesn't make the other person gone, rather, it's the true testament they were alive and they got to get married. And it be nice to see him be in this "denial" state that Sakoto isn't gone and she's actually just right here in his heart (that surprisingly help him cope her passing). That's the ending I imagined. Sakoto's soul with Shinpei's
