i think this is the only time i’ve ever liked a side story far more than the main story. why couldn’t the side be the actual main story after the competition? why must the canonical end to the story be the indomitable champion actually not being indomitable, where he’s forced to sell his body for god knows how long? what ever happened to “hi” “hello” “how are you?” where is this author’s dignity? their self respect? their number? whats their address? they free tonight?
another stories with a really good side story that rivals its own original is “Dog in the House.” and “Under Grand Hotel” has a crazy and way more optimistic side story.
