They have met before, at least one version of the alien have met MC before. Some reason that being needs to regularly grow a new body - and that new body might need a host to cling on to.
Or someone choose MC to be next host for the alien, but honestly that someone seems weirdly too flirty. So I still believe that the alien cells are somewhat connected.
Either way, I'm pretty sure that MC was chosen a long time ago and not just now.
