I mean prior all the kids have been children of useful people. But now he has a teacher her has to worry about keeping entertained as well. I wouldnt be surprised if he started bringing in more kids with the sole purpose of Teach not having enough time to plan an escape or leave him in some way. The more kids Teach has to take care of, the more guilty he would feel if he left.
I think he would bring along smart and healthy kids who are old enough to eat and pee and sleep alone. He wouldn’t take babies because they cry during the night and they take a lot of work. He wouldn’t take toddlers for the same reason plus they like to attempt suicide by touching everything and putting it into their mouths. As for sick kids, that’s medicine that they just don’t have and isn’t being manufactured anymore so survival of the fittest. And kids who are too dumb won’t be able to properly sell their case to him which means they can’t learn survival skills or learn a trade to be useful to the village. He’d probably kill all the kids who don’t have a chance at surviving as a mercy killing. Better than starving to death, getting sexually assaulted, being eaten alive or slowly turning into a maggot.
As for this kid, they seem smart. They took the opportunity to run when the two intruders shot him and now is trying to plead his case to guwon. He’s smart enough to be a runner and a scout so that makes him valuable and he’s old enough to not be a burden. He looks healthy save for the bullet hole so guwon will probably take him on.
If it’s a through and through shot, pour vodka on the hole and pack with gauze. You can probably do the same with a half shot but you gotta pull out the bullet. Fire and alcohol are your friends and can sterilise a needle. After that, sew up the hole and keep that shit bandaged and with plastic wrap around it. No moving that shoulder. You SHOULD use medication but in the chance that you can’t, learn your local flora and find ways to make your own medicine. Sure, you can’t exactly make penicillin at home but you can make something that will reduce swelling and pain. You can make something that will reduce bleeding and encourage healing. You can also use stinging nettles to smack the wound on the outside to promote faster healing in that area. You don’t necessarily need medication to solve this. Btw this is info I got from my parents. My mum was born in a country with active war going on and my dad fought in a few wars in Africa when the names of the countries were different.
Any sort of ***treatment*** or medication. All of that is treatment and requires time, energy, and resources that the compound may or may not have. Also, the closest thing they have to a medic right now is a high school girl.
Even if they took in the kid (keep in mind that pediatric gunshot wounds have significantly higher mortality rates compared to adults), the chances that he regains ***full mobility*** without proper medical attention is slim to none.
It’s already been shown many times that Guwon only takes in people who can fulfill whatever discrete role he deems necessary. He’s willing to, and has allowed, children already living in the compound die without treatment, so why would he ever bring in an injured child *of his own accord*?
Yes, there’s bush medicine. Clearly, no one on the compound is familiar, which is why Guwon tried to find a doctor (the vet) in the first place. And just because you mentioned it specifically - medicinal stinging nettle pretty much doesn’t exist in Korea.
I’m not saying that it’s easy or that it doesn’t involve time/energy/resources. I’m saying that most people have sewing kits and alcohol (for basic first aid) in survival situations. They also would have access to fire because they cook. And since Korean men have to enlist, they should have at least some basic understanding of what to do with army medical care aka bush medicine. Yes, armies will have more advanced medical equipment but the concept is the same. I don’t know the age of the kid but I’m assuming they’re malnourished so that can take a few years off of whatever we see so maybe a preteen? A teen? They don’t look like a prepubescent child at the very least. I do think they can survive it especially a gunshot to the shoulder. It WILL affect mobility in the long run BUT they just killed a few people so they need to replace those workers. Also, kids are extremely resilient, prone to brainwashing and can be taught far quicker than an adult can. I’m not saying for sure that guwon WILL bring the kid. I’m saying that from what we know of guwons logical thinking, he’s more likely to bring the child than not.
As for the nettles, I didn’t know that so we learn something new everyday. I think you can also prick the skin with a needle over and over to do the same thing like how you would would dermaplaning or that weird eye lift treatment that uses laser burning dots onto the face to promote healing and tightening up the skin. Also, knowing guwon, he might just cut the arm off if he thinks it’s a lost cause. I don’t think the author would show us the kid meeting guwon if guwon wasn’t considering keeping the kid though.

Okay, now this has got me curious as to how he chooses who he wants to bring back with him. Of course, he only seems to bring back people who will prove useful, but what about kids? Does he show more 'empathy'/mercy to kids and bring them ALL back, or only the healthy one? And what would the cutoff age be for when he would js kill them?
