The machine that raised them as kids said that the "perfect human" (ugly slug thing) came into existence as a demon and showed up near "the big hole", the weird cataclysmic zone where demons first appeared. He went there to harvest its spinal fluid, thinking that he could use it to heal Charin, and if it didn't work, he could go ahead and swap him out with Tehir. And Kimoto thwarted that by, you know...eating the "perfect human" >.>
