seeing people say that maxi should let riftan go through with the war as if it’s a good idea- it’s not. if they go to war riftan becomes an enemy to the king, which would strip him of his knighthood and make him a wanted man in the lands. Every person who has held a grudge against riftan would come crawling out of the woodworks to try and kill him for a prize. (Spoilers for novel below)
(SPOILER) they would even have to run away eventually, which riftan even suggests as things become more serious because he knows he shouldn’t risk the lives and honour of his men over. And then what happens? The servants in the castle lose work, they’re branded as loyal to the enemy and can’t find work elsewhere. You can’t just throw the word war around and frankly, riftan isn’t powerful enough to do that in the first place.
They would lose everything they have, which was originally given to them by the king. Yes Riftan made it flourish but he wasn’t born noble, these were gifted to him by the king for his war efforts but could just as easily be taken away.
